Increase daily app engagement by 50%
Reduce government spending on chronic healthcare
Healthy 365 is a mobile app that helps Singaporeans achieve their health goals.
Developed by the Health Promotion Board, the app does so via fitness challenges, rewards, and health resources.
For a school project, our team wanted to increase daily engagement of the Healthy 365 app after these troubling findings:
Singaporeans are passive about health
60% have not scheduled a health screening in the last 12 months.
More are suffering from chronic conditions
On average, Singaporeans suffer 10 years of ill health. 1 in 4 Singaporeans aged 40 years and above has at least one chronic disease.
Government spend on healthcare has risen
The country’s spending on healthcare has tripled from $3.7 billion in 2010 to $11.3 billion in 2019. This rate of increase is unsustainable.
How might we empower busy Singaporean parents to develop sustainable long-term healthy habits?
To get to know our primary users, we did these:

Working Singaporeans aged between 25-40 with children under 12 years old
So as to...
Focus on citizens that fall outside of the government’s Healthier SG segment
Instil preventive health habits early before any major health issues arises
Inculcate healthy habits to be passed down to the next generation
From there, we validated our proto-persona and synthesised these 4 key insights:

Problem
Working parents believe preventive health is very important.
But they are not as motivated to work towards it.

Reason
They prioritise other commitments over health.
Because the benefits of the latter is not immediately tangible.

Opportunity 1
They are more likely engage in preventive health activities if it doesn’t require significant time, energy, or money.
Seamless lifestyle integration is key.

Opportunity 2
Monetary rewards are secondary in sustaining their health practices.
They are motivated by a sense of progress, and feeling good from their efforts.

Meet Glow — A personal health companion
Introducing Glow, the new mascot with a sunny personality who will be cheering users on every step of the way as they work on their health goals, motivating them to stay on track.
Personalised daily challenges
With a more personalised onboarding experience, users will receive a unique Healthy 365 plan tailored to their health goals and existing health conditions. Each day, Glow will suggest 3 easy-to-complete health challenges across nutrition, physical fitness, and mental wellness that aligns with user’s preferred commitment levels.
Flexible challenges for a busy lifestyle
The challenges are made flexible to fit into users’ busy schedules. They are simple to do, and come with customisable durations. If a challenge feels too difficult for the day, users can also shuffle it out with a more manageable one so they still progress and maintain their streak.
Streak tracking and protection
With streak visualisation, users’ efforts are made tangible. The Streak Pause feature also protects users’ progress if they accidentally slip for a day. Users can also update their statuses to ensure their streak stays intact during life’s unexpected moments.
Widgets — motivation at a glance
Users can choose from 3 widget types to add Glow to their home screen to remind them of their streak, offer a daily inspirational quote, or show their day’s challenges.
There is no real impact as this is a fictitious project.
